Indication
Inter‐trochanteric fractures of femur
Procedure
1.Skin incision with surgical blade No.10 over the lateral aspect of greater trochanter.
2.Haemostasis with diathermy pen.
3.Cut fascia with Mayo’s curved scissors.
4.Split muscle with and periosteum with periosteal elevator.
5.Locate insertion point with awl under x‐‐‐ray control.
6. Intramedullary preparation can either by
i) reaming by flexible reamer through 3mm ball‐tip guide‐rod gradually; or
ii) one step conical reaming through 3.2mm trocar ‐ point guide‐‐‐pin.
7. Insert the selected GAMMA III Nail with insertion handle.
8.Remove the 3mm reaming guide rod.
9.Insert guide‐pin through the targeting device through femoral neck under x‐ray screening.
10.Measure the length and perform step drill.
11.Insert the selected Lag screw accordingly.
12.Insert set screw.
13.Perfom distal locking through the targeting device.
14.Irrigate wound with NS.
15.Haemostasis with diathermy pen.
16.Close wound with vicryl 1, vicryl 2/O and skin stapler
